The No Geek Needed Video Grabber is simple to use, after it is installed. However, we did not receive software or a driver CD with the device. We were able to locate a driver online for the No Geek Needed VHS to DVD converters, but not from the manufacturer's website, and use the product. However, we had to use a different video capture program because the software was not included.
The No Geek Needed Video Grabber will import videos with an S-video or a composite cable. There is no automatic screenshot option for the VHS to DVD converters. We burned DVDs quickly and easily using the No Geek Needed Video Grabber, but we had to use Windows Movie Maker because no software was included with our product.
Every other video capture device we reviewed included video capture software with each purchase. The No Geek Needed Video Grabber is supposed to include the ArcSoft TotalMedia 3.5 software suite. When we tried the different support options and phone numbers, we were able to speak with representatives, but no one who could help us. We were unable to find a download for the product online. Eventually we were connected with someone who sent another copy of the software. However, it took 2 days to find the correct person who could send us a new driver installation CD. We never received a CD to install the software, despite asking for one repeatedly.
The No Geek Needed Video Grabber was able to expertly sync with all the different Windows operating systems we tested. We were also able to use the VHS to DVD converters to capture copyrighted material. Using Windows Movie Maker we copied video directly from our VCR to DVDs.
When we realized that the software did not include any installation CDs we went to the No Geek Needed Video Grabber website. However, we were unable to find any driver downloads. We contacted customer support by phone and were told they would try and find a driver and send us the link via email. We never received a link for drivers from the support team and it was only through contacting the company management directly were we able to finally receive the drivers and software programs.
Using other driver download websites, we were able to find the necessary downloads in order to help the No Geek Needed Video Grabber sync with our computers. This process was time-consuming and not as easy as many other products.
From the No Geek Needed website, you will be able to gather very limited information about the converter. There is no product information, feature set or any detailed information. The website lists a phone number for help. After being put on hold for more than 15 minutes, we were connected to a representative who was unable to answer our questions. When we asked to be transferred to someone who could help us, we were given a reference number and told to expect an email, which we never received.
There are no online tutorials, live chats, frequently asked questions or user's manuals. There is no area to download necessary drivers and the email address provided slow responses to questions.
Our experience with No Geek Needed Video Grabber was extremely negative. The drivers and software we needed weren’t included with purchase and the help options were dismal.
Pros
This device is compatible with most programs and operating systems.
Cons
The help and support options are miserable.
We do not recommend this product because of the lack of useful customer support.
